Sony's headphones are regularly among the best in the market in the field of noise cancelling. The fifth generation of WH1000XM5s are not an exception, providing one of the most enjoyable experiences we've had with noise cancellation headphones in recent years. When you put on the headphones and turn on noise cancellation, it's like walking into a cone of silence. Engine noises and HVAC systems, squeaking metal and even neighboring conversations all become muted.

The XM5s also stand out on the audio side with an impressive soundstage that can give every element of a track room to breathe and shine. On Billie Eilish’s Bad Guy for example, the drums pound with a satisfying amount of force and power and soaring vocals are a perfect fit throughout the mix.

The XM5s also stand out for their intelligent interaction with your smartphone. 4. Sony WH-CH720N

If you're looking for a pair of headphones that offer excellent active noise cancellation at a budget-friendly price the Sony WHCH720N are an excellent option. They improve on their predecessor model, the 710N Wireless, offering better ANC performance and a better sound quality. The 710N Wireless also has a lighter design with a battery lasting up to 35 hours.

However, if you're looking for flagship-level features like LDAC Bluetooth support and Smart Listening with voice assistant integration, these headphones aren't for you. They don't come with a carrying case, auto-pause feature, or earcups that fold, so they may be difficult to carry around.

The build quality of the WH-CH720N is decent but not as impressive as the aforementioned 1000XM5. The headband and earcups are constructed of plastic. They are light and comfortable for long periods, but they're not built to withstand intense use or even a few falls on hard surfaces. The design is bulky, and the earcups creak when you move. The controls are simple to use, however they have tactile buttons that give excellent feedback via clicks. A single touch of the power button toggles ANC on and off, while pressing and holding it prompts you to turn on Sony's Adaptive Audio Control feature. This feature lets you choose the appropriate profile based on the location you are in or how you use the headphones.
