sony-wh-ch520-wireless-bluetooth-headphoIn contrast to earbuds, headphones over-ear completely surround your ears and can block out ambient sound. Find headphones with active noise cancellation, and an endurance of at least 20 hours.

The Sennheiser Momentum 4s come with excellent ANC, a convenient app, and simple control via the ear. The default sound provides an intense thump, however vocals and instruments can be pushed to the background.

1. Sony WH-1000XM5

The Sony WH-1000XM5 is a fantastic pair of headphones for people who love music and want the most wireless headset. The Wireles Headphones are light, come with a soft carrying case and can be folded flat to fit inside your bag. Their touch controls are simple to use and easy to navigate. their battery lasts an impressive 30 hours with ANC switched off. The headphones come with an auto pause feature that shuts them off when you take them from your head. This helps in conserving battery.

The WH1000XM5 works with Sony Headphones Connect, which offers a variety of features that can be used to customize the audio experience. The app can be used to monitor your location and adapt ambient sound features to your environment. The microphone is built in for hands-free calling. The Sony WH1000XM5 plays music wirelessly via Bluetooth or wired via the cable provided. They support aptX, aptX HD and aptX Adaptive to play high quality audio via Bluetooth.

Similar to the XM4, the WH-1000XM5 is lightweight and comfortable, with a well-padded headbands and ear cups. These headphones are comfortable to wear and are suitable for extended periods. They are also ideal for long flights and commutes. They feature excellent noise canceling performance that blocks out most background noise while maintaining clarity and clarity. The Sony WH1000XM5 has decent bass for closed back headphones and they offer an excellent soundstage with a clear separation of vocals and instruments.

The low latency is a major benefit. The lag is so low that it's practically imperceptible and they can be used to play casual gaming. These are not the best for gaming in a competitive manner but they're excellent for those who wish to utilize them for media consumption or for making calls hands-free.

Sony is committed to incorporating intelligent features into its products and the WH1000XM5 model is no exception. The active noise cancellation is one of the best that I've used and they have many smart features to improve your listening experience. They also have Sony's DSEE Extreme engine which upscales compressed music to close to high quality. They also work with Sony's LDAC technology which streams higher-bitrate audio via Bluetooth (although not as hi-res as a dedicated headphone DAC).

2. Bowers & Wilkins PX7 S2

Bowers & Wilkins flagship headphones, the PX7 S2, have consistently appeared on the top lists of wireless headsets since the launch of the first generation PX7 in 2015. This puts them in the same category as Sony WH1000XM5 or Bose's QuietComfort. Its newest model, the PX7 S2, is an upgrade that takes the first headphones to the next level with better ANC performance as well as a fresh design.

In the earcups, 40mm bio cellulose drivers are angled to point straight at your eardrums in order to provide an audio experience that is more intimate than other closed-back headphones. This is a bold claim however, one that the PX7 S2 is able to deliver on. Vocals cut through clearly, and bass is deep and rumbly when you need it to be.

The PX7 S2 is also very adept at making voice calls. It has a crisp, clear sound that does not overpower your voice. They also provide a fast charge that allows you to return to full power in less than two hours. Furthermore, they're compatible with hi-res audio due to an adaptive Bluetooth codec that enables them to play music with 24-bit resolution.

For most listeners the most significant upgrade is the improvement in noise cancellation and audio performance. In our tests, the PX7 S2 eliminated nearly all of our simulated aircraft cabin noise with remarkable effectiveness and performed exceptionally when we performed Mozart's Et In Carnatus Est and Sanctus from his Grosse Messe, demonstrating excellent understanding of the changing dynamics between the solo voice, the wind trio, and orchestral accompaniment.

In addition to in addition to ANC, as well as improved ANC, PX7 S2s have a number of other useful features that make them very competitive with other top-rated noise-canceling headphones. They're completely wireless, with Bluetooth multipoint connectivity, which means you can pair them with two devices simultaneously, and they include a built-in microphone which allows hands-free calls with your phone's assistant. They're also incredibly robust, with premium-feeling and durable construction that will last for years of continuous use.

Of course, they're not 100% perfect. The clamp force on our test models was a little wire less head phones than we'd like, and there aren't as numerous additional features in the app as other options, but these are minor complaints. The PX7 S2s is an excellent wireless headset that rivals other models in its class. It's difficult to imagine a rival that can beat them.

3. Focal Bathys Wireless

For audiophiles who appreciate high fidelity and are looking for an exceptional wireless noise-canceling headset The Focal Bathys are tough to beat. They're the French audio company's first-ever ANC wirless headphones that use cordless bluetooth headphones and they offer incredible sound quality both in Bluetooth mode and when connected to the device via USB for true hi-fi listening with up to 24 bit/192kHz (the headphones are also capable of blocking external sound through its closed ear cups).

The Bathys are gorgeous, with their glossy black finish and Wireles Headphones swooping curves similar to Focal's premium open-back Elear and closed-back Celestee headphones. They also come with premium materials such as magnesium and aluminum for a robust build that feels solid, comfortable and worth the cost.

In Bluetooth mode, the Bathys provide a clear and lively sound signature that easily outperforms similarly priced consumer ANC options such as the Bose QC45. Direct DAC audio mode allows them to be pushed further and makes them an excellent choice for true hifi enthusiasts.

The Focal and Naim app allows users to adjust the headphone's playback controls and bluetooth headfones pairing preferences. The app lets users choose between soft and silent intensities for ANC. Users can also adjust the brightness of the LEDs that are on the earcups of the headphones, and alter the EQ settings. The app is fairly bare-bones but offers enough functionality to warrant its purchase.

The only drawback is the active noise cancellation, which doesn't live up to the quality of the competition. The headphone doesn't block out all of the ambient noise as the top-rated XM5 or AirPods Max, and its Treble accuracy is subpar with a muddy mid to high frequency that impedes the sound of instruments and vocals.

The Focal Bathys headphones aren't the most portable. They're not suitable for travel since their ear cups do not fold and they are heavier than other models. The Bathys are best used at home for long listening sessions or as an example headset for audio engineering. The Bathys are comfortable to wear for long periods of time despite their size and bulk.

4. Sony WH-CH720N

The Sony WH-CH720N are a good pair of wireless over ear headphones for the money. The noise-cancelling technology is great and does a great deal to cut down on ambient noise. They are great for those who commute or travel. Their matte finish and durable construction gives them a hint of luxury.

They are similar in design to Sony's newer 1000X and XB910N headphones. They sport a slim, plastic headband with the usual hinges on the earcups. They're light and comfortable to wear, however they feel a bit too compressed for my liking. In the box, they come with an USB-C port to charge, a 3.5mm jack, and a decent-length cable. They support multipoint Bluetooth which means you can connect two devices at the same time if you want.

In my tests the CH720N's hybrid noise-cancelling tech did well in reducing ambient noise, with only few notable blips while walking through Waterloo station and London Victoria. The sound-silencers weren't able to block all sounds around them, but they did struggle with low-frequency sounds such as the rumbling engine sound of buses and trains.

Streaming music over the CH720N's Bluetooth connection was smooth, and it exhibited a low level of harmonic distortion. I tried a variety of genres and discovered they could handle the intricate interplay between instruments quite well. It did a great job of taming bass in rock tracks, and focusing the mix.

I like the fact that you can adjust the Sony Headphones Connect app to tailor the CH720N's ANC and multipoint connectivity settings to suit your preferences and add a variety of audio presets. You can also make use of the app to enable DSEE, which upsacles compressed content and improves the sound quality.

While the WH-CH720N lacks a few of Sony's primetime features when compared to the XM5 (such as Speak-to-Chat and Quick Attention) they do offer a robust set of features available for PS130. You get access to 360 Reality Audio and a variety introduction of bluetooth technology smart controls in addition to the DSEE upscaling feature. The only thing that is not included is LDAC Bluetooth High-Res Audio Support I think it would have been a welcome inclusion.
